PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Dr. Ibraheem Olayemi Awowole had the Nigerian Medical Association prize for the best graduating Student, with MBChB Honours from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. He won the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Prize for the best candidate in the West African College of Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, England. He completed his Advanced Training in Fetal Medicine at the University of Leeds NHS Trusts, England in 2018.
Dr. Awowole is a past recipient of the Majekodunmi Young Researcher’s Award of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nigeria (SOGON) in 2014. He received the John J Sciarra Honorable Mention Award by the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO) for the Best Research in Low- and Middle-Income Countries in 2016,and he was awarded the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) Travel Grant in 2020. His presentations at the World Congress of the RCOG were selected and published in the BJOG as one of the Top-Scoring Abstracts of the congress on 3 different occasions.
Dr Awowole is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, where he is actively involved in running the activities of the Feto-Maternal Unit of the institution. His passion is to contribute to capacity building through training, thereby improving the access of pregnant women in Nigeria to a well-deserved, specialized care. He is a member of the Feto-Maternal Subspecialty Curriculum Development Committee of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. He is also a Facilitator to the Faculty of Radiology of the West African College of Surgeons’ course on Feto-Maternal Medicine, as well a volunteer to the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) outreach programme.
